How do skin changers work in games, and are the changes visible to others?

Random question because I keep seeing skin changers mentioned in gaming software discussions.

If a tool changes how a skin looks on your own screen, does that usually mean other players see it too? Or can the change be completely local?

I assume it depends on the game, but I'd like to understand the difference.

It depends on how the game handles cosmetics. A local visual change doesn't automatically mean the server or other players see it.

Exactly. Changing something in your own client and changing the cosmetic everyone else sees are two different things.

And sometimes updates break cosmetic mods because the game changes how assets are loaded. Fun times.

I'd check whether a tool is intended for offline use, local visuals, or an officially supported customization system. Those aren't interchangeable.

Also don't assume a cosmetic tool is allowed just because it doesn't directly affect combat. Check the game and server rules.
