Best dinosaur to play solo when your friends aren't online?

My usual group has terrible schedules, so I'm looking for something I can play without spending the entire session trying to find other people.

I don't need the strongest dinosaur in the game. I'd rather have something that gives me a decent chance of surviving while learning the map and mechanics.

What do you normally pick when you're playing solo?

Honestly, pick something you enjoy instead of chasing a tier list. You'll learn more by sticking with one species for a while.

Depends whether you enjoy waiting around or moving constantly. A slower, more deliberate playstyle isn't for everyone.

I like smaller dinos because escaping is sometimes more realistic than trying to fight everything. Still get caught occasionally because apparently I have zero situational awareness.

Solo large carnivore is basically a second job. You spend half your time looking for food and the other half regretting every decision.

Try a couple of playstyles before committing. Mobility, food requirements, and how comfortable you are avoiding fights all matter.
